Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
I pray someone out there can help me. I had Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta.
I was getting msg "Could not perform this operation because the default mail
client is not properly installed". I tried everything under the sun to fix
this. Contacted WLM newsgroup. I was told I was getting this msg because I
was using BETA version of WLM. I was given a very long set of instructions to
uninstall and reinstall the new version of WLM. What a mistake. I
eventually ended up with this message after I was all done reinstalling.
"PLease wait while Windows configures Windows Live Mail". It would sit there
a few seconds and then disappear. No WLM. I googled this message and
discovered this was a well known problem. One of the solutions was a registry
change that involved Permissions. I went ahead and changed...still did not
work. I decided the heck with it and did a System Restore. I needed my
email !!
So, today, I decided to go with Windows Mail. (Outlook 2007 is too slow and
causes my CPU to constantly run)
My problem is this: I cannont import my messages from the back up folders.
For Select the format, I chose Microsoft Windows Mail 7, because the other 3
listed would not work. I browsed to the location and hilighted one of the
folders. The file path appeared under Location of Messages....and when I
clicked on NExt, I received this error: :No messages can be found in this
folder or another application is running that has the required files open.
Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have filed
open". I cannot proceed any further. I am in a panic because I need my
messages. Please tell me how I can import my messages from WLM Desktop to
Windows Mail. I am praying there is a solution for this.
Thanks so much,
Eileen

Re: Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
Hi,
Not quite sure what you mean by backup folders. Did you export your
messages from WLMail into these, and if so, what format did you use?
Do you still have WLMail installed?

Hi, yes, I still have WLM Desktop Beta installed.
I exported my messages using the WLM Desktop Beta export into folders.
Thanks SIW2

Re: Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
Hi,
You need to create a new empty folder, name it saved mail ( or whatever
you like ) ,
Open WLM and Export your messages into the new empty folder you just
created, using Microsoft Exchange format.
WM can import this format.
Hope This helps

Re: Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
If you still have those folders, all you need to do is open Windows Mail,
create any folders you need, then use Windows Explorer to navigate to your
backup folders and drag and drop the messages in the backup folders into the
folders you created in Windows Mail. Both Windows Mail and WLM store
messages in .EML format, so drag and drop is all you need.

Re: Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
Hello Hal,
Thanks so much for your help and advice, but the drag and drop did not work.
THe error message I received is a Windows Mail : "The file
'C\Users\Eileen\Desktop\msgs090808\pop.bellsou290\ Edgepark' could not be
opened because it does not exist, or is being used by another application."
"An error has occurred."
Any other ideas?

Re: Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
Is WLM closed when you try this? You only want Windows Mail and Windows
Explorer running.

Re: Import msg from WLM to Windows Mail
Hi Eileen,
Right click the Taskbar, select Task Manager - look under the
Applications tab to see if WLM is there - if it is - click on it to
highlight and click End Task.
If WLM wasn't there , make a note of the programs that are running and
post it back.
