Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
I have a new HP Touch Smart desktop..runs Vista. My ISP is AT&T Yahoo. My
mail program is set up with AT& T pop settings and my email address is linked
to this account. This mail account works fine.
I recently attempted to send a link from IE...much to my surprise, windows
Mail opened...downloaded everything that was in my yahoo mail account but
would not allow me to send the link. Error message:
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was 'slcrac@ameritech.net'. Subject 'RockBuilt
Lofts', Account: 'Yahoo Mail', Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '530 authentication required - for help go to
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/dsl/mail/pop/pop-11.html', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
I've done all I can to correct this...just can't do it. What am I missing?
Of note also..I downloaded Windows Mail live at some point during my
frustration because it refered to being able to link all email
accounts...well, that didn't happen so I probably messed that up as well.
nothing like a new computer to make you want the old one back!!

Sounds like you haven't checked the box "My server requires authentication".

Re: Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
You know...all I want to be able to do is continue to use my AT&T Yahoo email
address/mail account AND send a link or photo from an open browser without
Windows mail or windows live mail...infact, should I delete one of these
programs from my computer? As you know, windows mail came preloaded...I
downloaded windows live....this is a mess for me.

Re: Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
That setting is in the same place it was under XP's OE:
Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Check the box for "My server requires authentication".
Incidentally, you are using obsolete port settings, so that may also
impair your ability to send. Go to:
http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=10918
and use the settings shown in the the last paragraph on that page.

Re: Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
It sounds like you only want to use webmail via your browser.
Yahoo claims that they have a fix that will set their webmail as the
default email service. Give it a try:

Re: Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
Gary, I never used XP OE...have always used AT&TYahoo Mail with XP.
The Vista tools does not have Accounts...I'm confused with your suggestion
on the obsolete port settings but will try to locate where to change those
numbers.
Should I delete one of the Microsoft Mail programs? Or do you have to have
both Microsoft mail to run Microsoft Live Mail?

Re: Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
I've changed everything you suggested...now I get this message when
attempting to send this link from IE: Windows Live Mail immediately
opens...just AT&T Yahoo Mail to be the one default???
The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's
e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'slcrac@ameritech.net'.
Subject 'RockBuilt Lofts'

Re: Can't send email from Windows Mail Live
Your settings are not correct. Before I go into the details, did you see
my post about using webmail via your browser?
There is no point in getting you set up in an email program if you
would rather use webmail through Internet Explorer.
