Can't send email from Windows Mail Live

Thanks...Yes, I did see your message concerning using yahoo webmail via my
browser. Those instructions are apparently written for XP because I can no
longer locate/pull down the mail option (per these instructions). I know what
I'm looking for because I've used it on my old XP. Let me be clear again:
I am fine using Yahoo mail with my IE browser...no problems there.
I don't want WML or WM to open when I want to email from an open browswer
window. Infact, I don't want to use either of these programs at all.
Sounds simple but obviously it's not. Can you still suggest something?

I do understand exactly what you want. The problem is that Vista by
default has set Windows Mail as the mail client that will respond when
you click on a MailTo link on a web page such as Craigslist. The only way
to change that default is to install a different mail client. Yahoo has not seen
fit to update its XP fix for Vista. You should complain to Yahoo about that.
Until such time as Yahoo comes out with an updated fix, all you can do is
copy the link from Craigslist and paste it into your Yahoo webmail screen.
Either that, or I can help you to get Windows Mail working for you.

ok, you convinced me that I need to give Yahoo the boot. It's crazy to have
to go through all those bells and whistles to email a link. I'd appreciate
the help with getting Windows Mail (live?) going. I assume this means all my
folders and contacts in Yahoo mail will not trasfer as well? That'a going to
be a bummer.

Let's get your Windows Mail and/or Windows Live Mail fixed up. Account
setup is the same for both programs. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the
the 'Yahoo Mail' account, click Properties. Go to the Servers tab.
Looks like you have the correct mail server names, smtp.att.yahoo.com
for outgoing, and pop.att.yahoo.com for incoming. Be sure to checkmark
the box for "My server requires authentication".
Click the Advanced tab. Make the incoming port number 995, and the
outgoing port number 465. Both servers require the SSL option checked.
Click OK. Try sending.

As far as bringing your existing folder email down from the server, it can
be done. Temporarily clean out the Inbox folder in your WM and/or WLM.
You can create a Hold folder and move the Inbox messages to it.

Then go to http://mail.yahoo.com in your browser and log in with your
AT&T credentials. Move the Inbox messages to a temporary Hold folder.
Move the messages from the folder you want into the Inbox folder.
Close webmail. Open your email client (WM/WLM) and download.
Move the downloaded messages to a new custom folder of your choice.
Repeat this process as many times as necessary. Remember that a
POP email client can only download whatever is in the Inbox folder
on the server.

Another consideration is whether you want to keep copies of all
messages on the server. If you do, Windows Live Mail does so by default,
but Windows Mail requires a setting change which you should do before
you download anything: go to Tools, Accounts, select your mail account,
Properties, Advanced, enable "Leave a copy of messages on server."
Depending on how much server space your ISP allows, you may want to
select one or both of the two associated 'remove' options.

There is no Accounts listed under Tools (on my Yahoo toolbar)..only Internet
Options. Am I missing something?? And Where?? I have made all the changes
you said to do but this is what I got when I tried to respond to an email in
Microsoft Life Mail:

Don't use the Yahoo toolbar for this. Those changes all have to be made
inside your email program, either Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.

Yes, I figured that out right after I sent out that distress call. I did
everything, double checked it and it still sent me the same error message.
So, I removed Microsoft Live from the computer...deleted it all. Left
Microsoft Mail and was able to send a link via email. Made it!! Thanks ever
so much for all your help. Someday I'm not going to be so computer challenged.
