Rick, things happen in Vista :-)
It most probably is what Gary points out, so address that.
Also when composing an email, especially important or long ones, save
regularly, every couple of lines even.
Ctrl + S will save to Drafts folder, if you get a crash you have it backed
up.
I find that doing a spell check is best done by selecting all the text and
hitting the F7 key (with F lock off, if it is on your KB).
