Qwest
I can't send emails nor receive them on my windows email using qwest. I have
all the fields filled out as they requested but keep on getting an error
message. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR command not implemented', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
I have been on the phone with them for hours, I don't want to use hotmail.
My windows mail worked fine beforehand when I had bendnet as an isp. I need
help I cannot receive mail or send using windows mail.

Re: Qwest
This is a Qwest MSN/Live email at address "@q.com", "@live.com",
"@hotmail.com" or "@msn.com"? Works fine for me. Do you have Qwest DSL
with MSN/Live or Qwest dialup (qwest.net)?

pop server: pop3.live.com
smtp server: smtp.live.com
user name: user@msn.com (for example)
pop3, smtp servers require SSL
smtp server requires authentication

Afaik, these settings work with all Qwest/MSN/Live "broadband partner"
accounts.

Finally, is this an email associated with your Qwest account? Go to
http://member.q.com and sign in with your Qwest primary account credentials,
click on Email accounts to make sure it is in the list.

You may get more help in the MSN discussion group:
microsoft.public.msn.discussion.

Saludos,

Earle

Re: Qwest
The smtp.live.com server must be on port 25 (which is standard), but it also
requires SSL, which is not standard. Make sure you have the SSL option
enabled under Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced.

If you still get an error message, copy it and post it here.

Re: Qwest
"@q.com" addresses are retained by Qwest in the event you terminate their
service. For this reason you may wish to get a "@live.com" or one of the
other supported types listed below, for portability. Yeah, I know you plan
to keep Qwest DSL indefinitely, but situations change. You can retain your
"@q.com" account for communication with Qwest/MSN, but you can use the
"@live.com" account for your communications with friends, merchants, etc.
"@live.com" and "@hotmail.com" accounts remain yours if/when you terminate
the paid service.

Are you trying to use pop3/smtp? Last time I checked, Qwest did not
officially support this email connection type. That said, I have been using
these settings for almost two years now. Their documented connection method
is through the MSN email client, Outlook Express HTTP interface, or Windows
Live Mail (http://get.live.com). I am therefore surprised that Qwest
personnel are trying to help you on this, and I suspect that your account
may be screwed up on the server end. In that case, Qwest and MSN/Live
support are likely to be throwing the hot potato back and forth for months.

If you can receive mail using Windows Mail, at least part of it is working.
Verify that your server settings, Advanced tab, show smtp server on port 25,
uses SSL.
