Preview Panel shows Red x for an Image

The preview pane shows a red x where there should be a picture. No warning
line appears about any blocked email.
In Tools, Options, Security, Download Images is unchecked.
I also turned off anti virus scanning in my Norton Internet Security.
What do I need to do to see the images and links?

Is this a HTML email that you are viewing as HTML (not plain text)?

Are you sure the picture is in fact included? What is the file size
of the message? Any message less than 10K file size probably has
no image included.
Also look at the raw source code (Ctrl+F3): do you see a big mass of
random characters?

It is an HTML. No mass of random characters. The image is probably just the
logo of the bank. This message is only 1K. However, in other messages, I
have had many pictures shown as red x's. As per your advice to others, I
went to tools, options, security and unchecked the boxes "Do not allow atts
....." and "Block images ....."

Just now, I sent myself a message in which I inserted a picture. I came
through nicely. I forwarded it to my hotmail address and I was able to see
it there. I forwarded it back to my optonline.net address and it came
through again.

It seems the problem has disappeared. If it happens again, I will write to
you. Thanks.

It sounds like the message that had the red X's did not actually
contain images, but it referenced an image file on the Internet.

The easiest way to fix your privacy problem is to create a
separate guest account. That way you don't have to move any
of *your* stuff.

The privacy that existed under OE was actually illusionary.
Any knowledgeable person could bypass it. Also, any visitor had
unfettered access to your private non-mail documents and pictures.
So that is why Microsoft did away with it.

I just received an email from an outfit called Market Edge. I think that
Windows Mail is blocking logos and small pictures from commercial outfits.
Any way to correct this? I have placed the domain for this company in my
safe list.

You may have to relax your security settings slightly. Try this:
Go to Tools, Options, Security, select the Internet zone.
If that doesn't fix it, your IE security settings may be too strict.
I get a weekly email from Microsoft that always has at least one
red X, but I haven't been motivated enough to troubleshoot it.
