Hello
Up until now my e mail has always worked fine but now I can't send or
receive mail
I am getting the message
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'Windows
Mail', Server: 'smtp.virgin.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
and also
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Windows Mail', Server:
'pop.virgin.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
Any idea what I should do ?

Re: Broken e mail
That type of error is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off.

Re: Broken e mail
I turned off the e mail scanning and now it seems to be sending but I still
can't receive mail - the new error message is
Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'pop.virgin.net', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Re: Broken e mail
McAfee is still messing with your email.
To prove that it is the culprit, uninstall it, and follow that up with
their debris removal tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...107083&lc=1033
If no improvement, you can reinstall McAfee.
Another option is upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less
prone to suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
Either way, email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for
reasons explained here:

First, right click on the error message and copy all of it to your next
message
to make sure we don't give you a solution to someone else's problem instead
of yours.
Then tell us what if any antivirus programs you have, and whether you have
ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer, even one
of the free trial versions that often come already installed on new
computers.
Many problems in Windows Mail are due to interference from antivirus
programs.
