Deleting an email after reading it and opening the next unopened e

after I have read an email and then delete it, mail opens the email below it
that I have already read. How do I get it to open the next email above it
that is not read yet?

A common way is to let it do as usual, then click on the subject of the
message you want to read.

In XP Outlook I could change wether you would go to the email you just read
after delting an email you were reading or it would go to the next one that
was unopened. In XP you could change this in Vista I can not figure out how
to change it.
