New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
So far I'm really NOT impressed. I tried several of your suggestions (i.e.
turn off the virus search in e-mail... didn't have it on in the first place!)
Called local COX communications go get the STM}..whatever and got that
put in, and it still won't send my e-mails. I NEED this to work for my work
(I sell real estate and cannot send files to clients like this.
PLEASE>>>>>>>IS there SOMEONE to CALL to tell me how to fix this.... I am NOT
one to read and do a few thousand steps. I need to be walked through this
problem to get this mess to work!
I have just changed my e-mail to satisfy Vista to the OUTLOOK, which I
absolutely HATE< HATE< HATE because I cannot access it easily when I travel,
cannot file items and NOW I'm told by the cable company that to be connected
to OUTLOOK Express, I have to go PAY someone or someplace.... how, what,
where, how much? Is there extra storage??? HHHHHHHEEEEEELLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
Vista does not and never will require Outlook. Windows Mail and Windows
Live Mail both run just fine. When you try to send, do you get any error
messages? If so, please post them (in their entirety, the details are VERY
important). Here are links to Cox's setup instructions for both Microsoft
Outlook 2003 (which also work for Outlook 2007) and Windows Mail:

If you travel then your simplest method is to use Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail
or similar and read / send using Internet Explorer via the service you
chose. Cox probably could set this up for you to use at home with
Windows Mail and when you are away using the Internet, but it sounds
like you or they have already abandoned that idea.

Re: New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
How did you set up and use email on your previous computer?
Email in Vista's Windows Mail program is set up just like it was
in XP's Outlook Express.
Cox (like most cable companies) is extremely bad at supporting
requirements for travelers. We have no control over your choice
in Internet providers.
In order for us to be able to help you, we need to see a copy of
the error message you are getting when you try to send email.

Re: New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
Hello. I too am having troubles with both Windows Mail and Outlook 2000. My
Vista package came with Windows Mail, but I prefered Office 2000 (with Word,
Outlook, etc.) A while back I read a post to delete the KB933928 update and
that fixed an initial problem. Since then though I can not open Contacts
when I have a new message open...it gives me the error "The messaging
interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists please
restart Outlook." Also, just in the past couple of days I updated from AVG
7.5 to 8.0 and I can no longer send messages from Outlook, but I can receive
them. I can send and receive from Windows Mail, but I can not open my
Contact list through that new e-mail. I uninstalled AVG 8.0 and re-installed
7.5, but no improvement. Any thoughts/suggestion would be greatly
appreciated? Thank you.

Re: New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
Outlook 2000 is not fully Vista-compatible. For more on this, see
http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/vista.htm
Specifically, Outlook 2000 interferes with the Contacts for Windows Mail.
I can't comment on your other Outlook-specific problem because this is
not an Outlook forum. The Outlook experts tend to hang out here:

Re: New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
Thanks for the info. Gary. It looks like (from reading the posts on the
other site) I should give up trying to use Outlook 2000 and maybe switch to
WM. I will try to uninstall Outlook and see if WM works better. Thanks
again.

Re: New to Vista and having trouble sending mail
If you can get a copy of Outlook 2003, it works great in Vista, and
doesn't affect Windows Mail.
