Fake e-mail address in Windows mail newsgroups
I wish to learn how to create a fake e-mail address for use in windows mail
when posting to newsgroups so my identity is protected. I will appreciate
anyone explaining the process.

Thanks.

First, make sure that the fake email address you want to use will not
actually
reach someone. Adding .invalid to the end will make sure of this, if you
don't
know how to test for this. For example, if your real email address is
xyz@abc.net,
you can be sure that xyz@abc.net.invalid will not reach anyone. Then start
Windows Mail, click on Tools, then Accounts, then the news account where
you want to change your return address, then Properties. For both the
E-mail
address: line and the Reply address: line, click at the right end of what
you want
to change, backspace over it, then type what you want to change it to. If
you
also want to change the nickname often shown before your address, change the
Name: line with a similar method. After the changes, click Apply, then OK,
then
Close.

I realised how to use/make a fake email addy, but what is a "Reply Address"?
Is it optional? What does it do? Is it advisable to use one? Should it be
the same as the fake addy? .........

TIA

You supply a Reply Address, if you want replies going to an address
different than the one used to send the mail/message. For the purposes of
newsgroups, you can leave it blank or put a fake address in there if you
just can't stand blank fields.

RE: Fake e-mail address in Windows mail newsgroups
In the "reply address" section, I just entered an address other than my main
one. It's one that I've used for many years on an ISP that provides no SPAM
protection. I already get about 25 SPAMs a day on it, so a few more won't
matter, as I just do a block deletion. You could just make up a non-existent
address, instead. If you enter one that is obviously fake, that will inform
people that you can't be reached by E-Mail for personal replies and they
won't bother trying to send them. With my approach, I can get such replies,
but also avoid SPAM on my newer, main address.
