Vista/ outgoing by no incoming mail

Wierd. We have had our laptop one week. Sometimes I can get mail, sometimes I
have to go to the server to get the mail. Today, I am able to send mail but
not receive it. Then, all of a sudden I got a deluge of old Junk mail from
Jan - March..but still cannot get my regular emails. Any suggestions?
I have the POP3 settings set up.

I should also say, we do have a desktop computer, but it doesn't
automatically download the mail. But, if I click on the Outlook Express, I
can retrieve my emails on that computer and they do delete from the server
after I do that. But, I've been trying to only retrieve mail on the laptop so
I can get everything converted over.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I figured it out! Kept going through the properties with a fine tooth comb
and I had changed something I hadn't intended to!
