windows mail won't email pictures
Disconnected from cable for a while, upon our return we can't E-mail pictures
or attachments thru windows mail. we get

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'try me', Account: 'pop-server.nycap.rr.com', Server:
'smtp-server.nycap.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

We can send the same attatchments thru Gmail and Aol. Again, this was
working fine for months befor we disconnected the cable to try DSL. Didn't
download anything on the change to DSL. HELP !!

Are you sure you aren't still connecting through an internet provider other
than rr.com? If you are, connections to port 25 are likely to be blocked,
to cause problems for spammers. See if this offers instructions for using
any other port:

<http://help.rr.com/AA/rrwho.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fHMSLogic%2femail_help_topi c.aspx%3ftopic%3dE%2bmail&topic=E+mail>

Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out which ones will
accept outgoing mail, since there are about 65,000 ports available and
it's unlikely that more than a few of them will accept outgoing mail.

Re: windows mail won't email pictures
Hi Robert, Thanks for the quick response. E-mails come and go fine as long as
there is no attatchment. Plus we contacted Time Warner and worked with them
awhile and they propted us to go to windows mail site.

Re: windows mail won't email pictures
You're welcome.

Perhaps there is a problem with your antivirus program taking too long to
scan the outgoing mail. If you have the option of disabling scans of
incoming
and outgoing mail in your antivirus program, try this option and see if it
helps.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have, and have you ever had a
Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that computer, even one of the
trial versions that often come already installed on new computers?

I'm using Trend Micro and never had McAffee or Norton on this computer. I
seem to remember seeing a scan time in the anti virus program, can't play
right now, but will check it later. And again no settings were changed in the
interim, to my knowledge. Just my girlfriend and I, and she's afraid of
PC's. Also in Windows Mail, when, when you choose "insert", only attachment
is highlighted, not picture or anything else is selectable if that helps.

Re: windows mail won't email pictures
A recent version of the Trend antivirus program (details not available)
is the third of the three antivirus programs that cause the most problems
in Windows Mail. If you have that version, just disabling part or all of
the program seldom helps; you usually have to uninstall it instead.
You may also have to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.

Problems in Windows Mail caused by antivirus programs are often
slow enough in showing up that not making any settings changes around
that time only rules out certain other problems.

If this solves your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems. Most versions of the
Norton and McAfee antivirus programs are bad choices; they seem
to cause problems in Windows Mail even more often. I recommend
either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install where you tell
it to leave out the parts that scan email.

http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

Also, note that Windows Mail has problems adding attachments while
they are still open in some other program. Make sure that any other
programs that have anything to do with the attachment are closed
before you tell it to attach the file that contains what you are trying to
attach.

Insert, Picture, will be grayed out unless you have chosen HTML format.
You can either make HTML the default format, or choose it each time you
compose a new email.

Make sure you turn off all email scanning in your antivirus. If that does not
improve the situation, do a trial uninstall of the antivirus, then try sending
pictures again.

Just to let you know, am still having trouble, so this thread is far from
dead. I haven't gotten back to the computer since 6/24, and I see some more
advise added. I appreciate everyone's help. I live a busy life, and so much
want to let this problem go. I've got hours prior to posting trying to figure
it out. A little disgruntled that Microsoft allows no contact on issues
(whatever), start back to school in later August and will probably not deal
with it after that. After all, G-mail is ending all the pictures I want.
That's whats so confusing, I used to be able to use the windows mail the same
way. The latest threads sound time consuming and I'm again leaving town for
awhile, so will try upon my return if I find time. Thanks all

Re: windows mail won't email pictures
Windows Mail has problems attaching pictures, or any other kind
of files, if these files are still open in some other program when you
tell Windows Mail to attach them.

Also, a recent version of the Trend antivirus program is among the
top three programs for causing problems in Windows Mail. Just
disabling part or all of the Trend program seldom helps; you're
more likely to need to uninstall it. You sometimes then need to
remove your email account under Windows Mail, then restart
Windows Mail and add the account again.

If that cures your problem, you may want a replacement
antivirus program. Most versions of the Norton and McAfee
antivirus programs are bad choices; they are the other two of
the top three programs for causing problems in Windows Mail.
I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom
install where you tell it to leave out the parts for scanning
email.
