Re: wont accept username and password-outgoing mail
That problem typically happens when your non-compatible
antivirus program has corrupted the account password store.
Which antivirus are you running?

RE: wont accept username and password-outgoing mail
I'm also having the same problem. every time I try to send/receive a
"windows security" box pops up asking for my user name and password but wont
accept them as valid. I've just spent 3 hours on the phone with my ISP teks
without a solution.
Can ms help?

Did you use the standard install for avast!? If so, it often helps to
uninstall it , then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out
the parts that scan email.

Re: wont accept username and password-outgoing mail
For continuity, always quote the message you are replying to.
If your AVG was installed using the default install method, it
has a troublesome email scanning module. Uninstall AVG,
then reinstall using the custom install option. That enables you
to deselect the installation of the mail scanning module.
Also, since your mail account was corrupted, delete that mail
account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

Re: wont accept username and password-outgoing mail
Same thing I told "wildstudio". Your mail account has probably been
corrupted by a non-compatible antivirus program. As a 'First Aid'
fix, turn off email scanning in your antivirus, then delete your corrupted
mail account. Restart Windows Mail, then recreate that mail account.
If no improvement, tell us which antivirus you are running.

Re: wont accept username and password-outgoing mail
Gary;
I was using AVG free edition. I uninstalled it then removed my
email acct. After reinstalling my email acct I found it works sometimes but
still comes up with the windows security box asking for my user name and
password and accepting neither of them.
What now??

Re: wont accept username and password-outgoing mail
You've already taken all the measures I know about.
If it works intermittently, it could be a flaky mail server.
If you still suspect your email program, try upgrading to
Windows Live Mail:
