getting email on desktop and laptop
My desktop and laptop share a cable modem connection to the Internet. The
desktop runs WIN98/Outlook Express and the laptop runs VISTA/Windows Mail.
Both are configured to download email from Gmail.com and leave a copy on the
server. But the laptop has not downloaded any mail for several days. When I
click on Send/Receive it goes through the motions of connecting and checking
for new email and never generates an error, but never finds any new emails.
(Outlook Express always finds them and leaves them on the server.) Any
ideas?

Make sure your gmail.com account is included in which accounts it should
check
for new mail. To do this, click on Tools, then Accounts, then your
gmail.com
account, then Properties. If there's no checkmark in the box before Include
this account when receiving mail or synchronizing, click on this box, then
Apply.
Click on OK, then Close.

Also, note that gmail.com may be one of the email providers that ignore
requests to leave copies of messages on the server after you download
them, so you may want to check this by logging in through webmail
after you connect through Outlook Express, but before you connect
through Windows Mail.
