fixed unable to delete email problem, now I have new problem

Its not so much of a problem I just don't know why windows mail is doing
this. I deleted the windows mail store files and it rebuilt the database and
I was able to send and received messages again. But now everytime I start
windows mail like 4 or 5 files starting with "edb" all pop up on my desktop.
I delete them then the next time I open windows mail they show back up. Why
is this??

j2 - Search on "stuck" or "outbox" and you will find threads that have the
same errors cropping up. There are other threads theat explain you have to
copy your email files then delete the whole local folder and let the program
regenerate 'em, then copy back the originals and copy into the empty ones.

no the files are no longer stuck that is all fixed, I just want to know why
these files keep showing up on my desktop everytime I open windows mail

As I have come to learn from the other threads, yes, the message store fix
you did might clear the stuck e-mail but it apparently causes more issues
such as you note & maybe others. It is not the work around recommended by MS
until they find & fix the root cause, MS recommends the whole WinMail
application Local Folder needs to be copied, deleted, regenerated, then
copied back to with the e-mail folders you want kept. I don't know if doing
that would help your issue also but it might if it gets WinMail to regenerate
everything it needs correctly.

BTW, the outbox stuck header happened to me again today after I regenerated
last Thursday with MS help line & had almost 4 days of clean WinMail ops. So
here I go again, off regenerating to be able to send e-mail. Sheesh.

This is exactly what I had feared. The 'fixes' provide only temporary relief.

Right, that was expected. The MS recommended WinMail app Local Folder
regeneration process doesn’t get at the root cause (as you know) that is
hopefully still working at MS. At least it didn’t cause any other issues on
this machine of which I am aware.

BTW the stuck outbox header has happened to me again today after about 4
days of trouble free ops & right away Vista stopped sending on that account.
It took 7-10 days the first time so maybe it is converging – I hoped for more
or less a full week again. I have to revert to my old XP machine on the home
network to send e-mail while planning to regenerate again. (It is sweet to
go back to Outlook Express….). I shut off the e-mail accounts on this Vista
machine and turned them on for the XP machine. Now I need two computers to
run e-mail…<<sigh>>.

Also BTW I re-phoned MS today since the original Tech. said call back when
it happens again. The new Tech. is on the WinMail team & has worked WinMail
for 6 months. Told me he had not heard of the stuck outbox header & no
sending issue before. I told him all he has to do is check on “communities�
- where people could help with more clues about their OEM and software
environment. That is maybe a clue Ms Tech.s don’t read “communities� very
much. He did tell me “be sure to have WinUpdate on…�…ha.

I am not ready to uninstall McAfee as that may slow down clue generation. I
am going to assume the trouble is within Vista WinMail for now. McAfee is
still on full strength.

This is the only issue for me so far with Vista Ult. and I am otherwise
happy with it & the processor/FSB/memory being much faster.

So far as I can tell, I lost the first reply when I posted, this board is so
very KLUNKY (software term)…so I’ll stop in favor of the angry mob that may
be forming…and the possibility this will be a duplicate.

I too am running an experiment of sorts. I just upgraded the XP partition on
my dual-booting laptop to Vista. I don't need XP any longer since I'm satisfied
that Vista will fulfill my computing needs. Anyway, the new install uses AVG
antivirus (with no email scanning). The old Vista install, which developed a
stuck 'ghost' header in the Outbox, used OneCare for antivirus.
I'm anxious to see if the new Vista install develops a similar problem.

Gary - Thx, good idea, pls check back if you learn anything - I use AVG on my
XP backup computers. I just spent an hour regenerating the Local Folders
because I couldn't remember it exactly from a week ago. It does not work if
you just delete Local Folders; you have to go up a level to delete the whole
'Windows Mail' folder just as the Tech. wrote.

WinMail is now back & unstuck for a few days maybe, I'll probably get real
good at regenerating - the root cause fix looks a long way off unless you
find no problem in your experiment. If you find no further issues, I'll
uninstall McAfee and go back to CA's anti-virus/anti-pest that worked well on
XP when it was my main desktop.

I'm also going to poke around on McAfee site to see if anything turns up.

Ok, I just finished with the McAfee tech. on their on-line chat service.
After much dialogue, their rep. George M., said his "Sr. Tech" advised the
stuck outbox header causing e-mail to stop sending & pile up in the outbox of
Vista WinMail is a known issue.

McAfee "Sr. Tech" advises they believe it is within McAfee SecurityCenter
not Vista but they don't yet know the root cause either. Told me to check
back on the website or contact them again to check if the fix has been
published.

So...the advice around "communities" to uninstall McAfee could be the right
thing to do for some. For me, now that I've learned regeneration, will stick
with McAfee. Who knows, maybe other issues arise w/other products. I
normally use the CA Suite on my main computer and AVG on my backup XPs along
the home network. I planned to go the free 90 days with McAfee then pay to
switch to CA's product. Mostly just because of brand familiarity, I'm no
expert to determine which one works better.

Gary, pls advise when you can about your own experiment. Thx,

I have used (and liked) their Windows XP version in the past, but have no
experience with the Vista version.
