can't send email now
Please help! I'm connected to a public network at a hospital where my
husband is, and I can't send emails. I get these messages:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Tennis', Account:
'gccn', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
AND
Account: 'gccn', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR authorization not enabled', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
I know it has something to do with authentification or authorization and
have tried lots of different settings, but I can't seem to fix it. Thanks
very much --

Comcast has started requiring users to change their outgoing port numbers,
but has been rather poor at telling their users about this in advance. See
if this helps:

Depending on the setup at the site, you may have to:
1. Uncheck the SSL setting for your outgoing mail server
2. Uncheck the setting stating that your outgoing mail server requires
authentication
3. Uncheck the logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)
Also, you may need to utilize the hospital's smtp server instead of
your own, if they will give it to you.
Can you receive emails?

Re: can't send email now
Let us know if changing port 25 to port 587 works for you.
I have some old reports that Comcast does not allow off-network use of
port 587, so if that is still true, we will give you a different workaround.

Re: can't send email now
Who is your email service provider? They will typically have a web
page that shows how to set up an email program.
You posted with a Yahoo.com email address. Is that your only email
address? If so, be advised that US-based free Yahoo accounts have
webmail access only, no POP access. Windows Mail does not handle
webmail. There are three possible solutions:
1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with
webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that.
2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...iew/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mai...op/pop-14.html
3. Another option is called YPOPs. It is free, but requires some technical
knowledge to implement, and isn't all that stable.
