Can you import pst files from MS Outlook to MS Mail running on Vista? If so
what has to be done. MS help was no help in answering this question.

Thanks

Re: Can you import and use MS Outlook files (pst) with MS Mail of Vista?
Windows Mail cannot import a .pst file unless Outlook is installed on the
Vista computer.

You can install Outlook, copy the .pst to the Vista computer, open the .pst
with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

Or,
If you have Outlook installed on an XP computer, import the .pst data into
Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and .wab file to the Vista computer,
and import into Windows Mail.

What's MS Mail? If that's your name for Windows Mail, You have two choices
about how to do it. 1. Install Outlook, preferably version 2003 or later,
on the
Vista computer first. Versions 2000 and 2002 also run under Vista, but with
some problems. Windows Mail needs to use part of it to be able to import
..pst
files. 2. On an older computer with both Outlook and Outlook Express,
import
the .pst file into Outlook Express. Then import the messages from Outlook
Express to Windows Mail.

After you copy the files to a directory on the hard drive of your Vista
computer,
make sure the copies are read-write instead of readonly before you import
them
into Windows Mail. A directory you create under the Documents directory is
an easy one to find during the import process.

If you also want your old contacts, copy the .wab file created by Outlook
Express
the same way. Then start Windows Mail, click Tools, then Windows Contacts,
then Import, then Windows Address Book File (Outlook Express contacts), then
Import, then find and click on the .wab file, then click on Close and close
the
contacts window.
