Windows Mail Not Sending Email
After downloading Vista SP1, my windows mail will no longer send messages. I
can receive email but not send. I am receiving the following error:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Test', Account: 'Wletc', Server: 'smtp.wletc.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me resolve this problem?

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections
to port 25 are often blocked to cause problems for spammers, and you
need to ask wletc.com if their outgoing mail server listens for outgoing
mail
on any other port besides port 25, and if so, where to find instructions for
switching to the other port. Just trying all the ports is a very slow way
to
find out, since there are about 65,000 ports available and it's unlikely
that
more than a few of them will accept outgoing mail.

The Vista SP1 update seems to make Windows Mail more sensitive to
problems caused by interference from antivirus programs, antispyware
programs, and antispam programs. What if any such programs do you
have?

Are there any messages in the Outbox that display only as error messages,
and not as messages you sent?

Re: Windows Mail Not Sending Email
No, the only messages in my outbox are truly messages I am trying to send.
Wletc has a built in antispam within my email account. I don't have the
answer for the internet provider's equipment crossing over. I'll have to
call and find out. However, Wletc is a wireless connection to the internet.
A small dish on my roof is directed at a radio tower that I assume picks up a
satellite signal. I am using Spysweeper for spyware and Trend Micro for anti
virus.

Re: Windows Mail Not Sending Email
A recent version of the Trend antivirus (details not available) causes
problems in Windows Mail and must be uninstalled, not just disabled,
to stop it from causing such problems. You may then need to remove
your email account under Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail
and add the account again.

Did you ever have a Norton or McAfee antivirus program installed
on that machine? Most versions of them also cause problems in
Windows Mail, and their uninstall programs often fail to remove the
parts of them that cause these problems.

I suspect that Spysweeper also causes such problems, but wait for
an answer from more familiar with it before deciding what to do
about it.

If this solves your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems. Most versions of the
Norton and McAfee antivirus programs are bad choices; they
cause problems in Windows Mail even more often. I recommend
either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it
to leave out the part that scans email.

Re: Windows Mail Not Sending Email
I just removed Trend anti virus altogether and now the email seems to be
sending normally. I will now try downloading AVG and I hope it will not
create any interference. Thanks so much for your help!! I had Microsoft
tech support chat going for three days and they have yet to come up with a
solution.
