Exporting Windows Mail messages to Outlook explorer not working.
I recently got Windows XP, because I remember it being alot better than
Vista. I have one problem, I can't seem to export my Windows Mail
messages to Outlook Express Format. I get the error "An error occured
while initializing MAPI". Now, I have heard that I accually need Outlook
Express to fix this error. If anyone can confirm that, and show me where
to download Outlook Express, that would be awesome. Thanks

Problems using MAPI need Outlook, not Outlook Express, installed.
Outlook is available as part of some, but not all, of the Microsoft
Office software packages.

As far as I know, MAPI is only used in Windows Mail if you try to
import or export messages for Outlook, not Outlook Express.
Outlook Express won't install or run under Vista, although I believe some
versions of it have been available for download.

Re: Exporting Windows Mail messages to Outlook explorer not working.
Don't export the mail. Windows Mail saves email messages as discrete .EMF
files; copy these files from Windows Mail's storage folders onto a portable
device or CD, take that to the XP machine, start XP and open Outlook
Express, browse to your portable device or CD with Windows Explorer, then
drag and drop these .EMF files into open Outlook Express folders - .EMF is
the native file format for OE, so they drop right in. As Robert points out,
the error you're getting is from trying to export to Office Outlook, which
uses a totally different methodology for storing email. Exporting to Office
Outlook requires that it be installed to handle this special format; with
Outlook Express, the format is the same for individual messages, so you just
drag and drop.

Re: Exporting Windows Mail messages to Outlook explorer not working.
Doesn't Windows Mail save the messages as .eml files, not .emf files?
