My windows mail on vista will recieve but not send emails
I have 2 seperate email accounts both on windows mail - for some
reason I cant send mail - I've checked all the details from my service
provider and can see no reason for it not to be working.
The error message I get is this

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read
the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help
determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail
service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'nafeica@hotmail.com'. Subject
'jhjkh', Account: 'pop3.avired.com', Server: 'smtp.avired.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '571 nafeica@hotmail.com prohibited.
We do not relay', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 571, Error
Number: 0x800CCC79

Really need help, as I do all my work on emails.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Is your mail provider different to your Internet Provider?

RE: My windows mail on vista will recieve but not send emails
This is my first time posting but wanted to share my info in regards to this
frustrating error troubles in windows mail. Go to microsoft.com and search
941090. Follow prompts and pick 32 bit encryption. It is the fix for the
problem and therefore allowing you to delete the message that is stopping all
your outmail
activity. It fixed mine! Good luck!

The key word in the error message is "relay".
Were you at a location away from your home internet connection?
(assuming avired.com is your home ISP)

Re: My windows mail on vista will recieve but not send emails
Thank you for wanting to help.
Believe it or not, there are many different possible causes for a
failure to send. It is therefore inappropriate to suggest that one fix
will cure all. The OP ("raven")'s issue has nothing to with that
Microsoft fix.

It is best to leave troubleshooting to the experts.

Re: My windows mail on vista will recieve but not send emails
Of the 2 seperate mail accounts, one is provided by the internet service
provider and one is a seperate account. Bizarrely, these messages 'seem' to
have stopped, for no reason that I can see. Hopefully though, that will be
the end of it.

Thanks to all for your comments and help

Come back if the problem happens again.
To avoid problems, you should only use the SMTP server belonging
to your Internet connection provider.

Re: My windows mail on vista will recieve but not send emails
Gordon, Have you received an answer to your problem? I have the same
problem and have checked that the outgoing server is set up properly (smtp)
and my service provider suggested I contact Gateway support who gave me no
answer.

Re: My windows mail on vista will recieve but not send emails
Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections
to port 25 are often blocked, sometimes with an error message about
relaying, to cause trouble for spammers. If this affects you, ask your
email
provider if their outgoing mail server will allow you to use some other port
for sending, and if so, where to find instructions for switching to this
other
port. Just trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there
are
about 65,000 ports available and it is unlikely that more than a few of them
will accept outgoing mail.
