Sending an email to ".org"

I tried to email someone with and .org ending to his email and it was bounced
back and said something about an organization. Do I have to do something
special in my email account to send out mail to and .org address?

In order to diagnose this fully, we would have to see the details of
that bounce notice.

Generally speaking, it should not matter what type of email address
you send to.
