Can't reply to mail in Windows Mail
My old PC ran Windows XP and Outlook Express. My new PC is Vista and
Windows Mail. I moved all of my ISP settings from Outlooks Express to
Windows Mail.

I can compose and send mail. I can also receive mail. Anytime I try to
response to mail, I get the following error message -

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: Numerous Countries Have Recently Dropped The Dollar
as Their Reserve Currency . . .', Account: 'mail.kingwoodcable.com', Server:
'mail.kingwoodcable.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

The subject in the error message is differnt depending on what I'm replying
too, but the error code is always the same.

I called support at my ISP and after about 2 hours of troubleshooting he
told me the problem was with my mail client. I am running Trend Micro virus
scan but I get the error message even when it's disabled.

If I compose a message from scratch and send it, things work fine. It's
only when replying to emails that I have the probem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

RB.

Re: Can't reply to mail in Windows Mail
Not sure why you only see the problem with replies, but this issue is
normally caused by a 'port 25 block'. Kingwoodcable.com is not an ISP,
and therefore your real ISP will block attempts to use external SMTP
servers. This anti-spamming policy is explained here:
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx

There are several workarounds, but for a non-portable computer
the best solution is to use your ISP's SMTP server.

See here:

http://support.cebridge.net/serveraddy.php

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet
provider's equipment to another's before it reaches the server?
If so, such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause
trouble for spammers.

A recent version of the Trend antivirus program (details not
available) causes various problems in Windows Mail, and
disabling it seldom helps. You have to uninstall it instead.
You then sometimes need to remove your email account
under Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add
the account again.

If this cures your problem, you may want a replacement
antivirus program that doesn't cause such problems in
Windows Mail. I recommend either avast! of AVG,
either one with a custom install that tells it to leave out the
part that scans email.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
