Windows Mail restarts after closing
When I close Windows Mail, I get an error message, which tells me that
Windows Mail has stopped working. Well I want it to stop working, which is
why I closed it!
It then proceeds to tell me that a problem has occurred and I have to click
on the button in the error message box to close the program.
Upon reopening Windows Mail, I am shown a message that Windows Mail did not
shut down correctly.
On some occasions, after clicking the Close button, Windows Mail simply
restarts itself for no apparent reason.
I have already disabled all e-mail scamming in my antivrus software, as I
understand that this can cause various problems, but why won't Windows Mail
simply close when I want it to?

Re: Windows Mail restarts after closing
Its probably a 3rd party program interfering. Turn off email scanning of
your antivirus if its enabled. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Hard to say what's causing it. You might be running some older program
that is interfering with WinMail's ability to close. As a test, try uninstalling
your antivirus program completely. Reboot, and try again.

Re: Windows Mail restarts after closing
Hello,
How often is the Windows Mail configured to check for new messages? Is
Outlook installed?
You may want to enable the troubleshooting feature in Maintenance:
TOOLS | OPTIONS | ADVANCED | MAINTENANCE
select the troubleshooting feature

Re: Windows Mail restarts after closing
..
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
It does not appear to be a problem with the antivirus.
Mail checks for new messages at startup and every 5 minutes at the moment
I do not have Outlook installed, but the title bar of my inbox does indicate
Outlook Express. I suspect that this has come about when I used Windows Easy
Tranfer to import all my settings and Contacts from my old computer. Is there
likely to be some sort of conflict between OE and Windows Mail and can this
be resolved somehow?

RE: Windows Mail restarts after closing
After transferring my outlook express from my old XP system computer using an
easy transfer wire into my new Vista based computer, I have the same problem
of windows mail not shutting down properly. It's not a huge problem I guess,
but very maddening all the same! Hopefully microsoft will recognise there is
a problem and create a patch to fix it. If they do sort it, or anyone out
there knows of a fix, please message this forum...Steve
