You might want to check here to see if you have such things as the
server name set up correctly:

Re: Vista SP1 Causes Email Failure
I was finally able to get it to work my restoring my system to the point of
the SP1 installation. I guess SP1 is not removed but at least I can get my
email now. All email checking programs worked immediately after SP1 was
removed.

Re: Vista SP1 Causes Email Failure
I just hope that when the final release of SP1 is out that it will install
correctly. I may have a ghost that can't be removed. Sure wish they
wouldn't have posted this beta version on the Windows Update site. I didn't
realize it was a beta until I read more about it afterwards. Lesson
learned. And I just reinstalled Vista a month ago since the system builder
didn't install it right about a year ago. I had a lot of problems but once
I reinstalled it myself all was well...well until SP1 beta!

Re: Vista SP1 Causes Email Failure
Vista's SP1 was finalized and declared 'gold' on February 4th.
SP1 breaks current versions of several programs, including
Trend Micro Internet Security and Zone Alarm:

We haven't seen any direct effects on Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.

Re: Vista SP1 Causes Email Failure
Actually, I don't think it's a Windows Mail problem. Sorry. It has to do
with the connection to the Incoming Mail Server. After restoring my system
to the SP1 installation point, POP3 worked. Microsoft hadn't cleaned up all
reference to the Beta on their websites since I was still redirected to a
site that said SP1 would be issued in mid-March. This was yesterday.
Anyway, it appears I now don't have it installed and it is not available to
me. Can I redownload it so I can try it again?

Re: Vista SP1 Causes Email Failure
SP1 is currently only available to official beta testers.
In mid-March it will be made available for download by the general public,
and in mid-April it will be pushed out by Windows Update.

Re: Vista SP1 Causes Email Failure
I knew there was something amiss. Why was it posted on Windows Update?
Someone obviously made a mistake. I didn't know I was an official beta
tester. OK, so I've tested it and you have my report.
