Windows Security WinMail dialog: Prefill w/ Acct Name
This is an OEAccount file question:

How to setup a WinMail oeaccount file so it will be pre-filled in the
Account name in "Username" field of the "Windows Security" dialog box that
WinMail throws up when the password in the oeaccount file is wrong.

I can programatically (C++) setup all the oeaccount file xml EXCEPT (!!) the
password.

I'd like that dialog that appears to at least have the default account's
Account name in that Username textbox. As-is it appears with "User name"
instead.

Why don't you set up the account with an ins file (what an ISP uses).

Re: Windows Security WinMail dialog: Prefill w/ Acct Name
Just to be clear, are you and the "New Handling..." document suggesting I
compose the xml element EXACTLY as:

<POP3_User_Name type="SZ">0</POP3_User_Name>

....with a "0" character (hex 0x30) as a value?

I've tried that AND a NULL (which results in:

<POP3_User_Name type="SZ"></POP3_User_Name>

Neither will popup that dialog prefilled with the username.

I think that dialog comes up when the username/password is not authenticated
by the email service and at that point MS just presents the window simply
without the fields prefilled...

This is TERRIBLE UI! First not to expose an API for us to encrypt the
password, and second --if I'm right in my previous statement-- not to prefill
the username!

any other ideas?? I'm out!

Re: Windows Security WinMail dialog: Prefill w/ Acct Name
Hi George,

I'll have to test some.

From one of my .oeaccount files the field is populated as follows:

<POP3_User_Name type="SZ">scochran@oehelp.com</POP3_User_Name>

And I imagine that's what you need. Take a look at a file already set up
from your accounts and it should help show you what you need.

Again, I will need to test some, as I know what is supposed to work, but not
actually if it does.

cheers,

steve

Re: Windows Security WinMail dialog: Prefill w/ Acct Name
Hi Steve,

Yes I've been composing the pop3 user element with a valid email address and
the dialog with "username" in the text box is what appears.

Yes please confirm for yourself!

Too bad MS did not (is it too late?) considered this when they decided not
to expose the password encrytion API!!!

If we cannot find a way to fill that textbox, it will be very easy for users
to corrupt an otherwise correctly setup account!!! (if they leave of the
domain part of the email address in that text box).

fingers crossed you can find a way!!

thanks, Steve.
