Re: cannot send any email since error message
Here's the fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"
It works on other folders in addition to the Outbox.

Locate the 941090 file that you downloaded and click it, it will then search
for the update and install it for you.

Re: cannot send any email since error message
i am having the same thing i get emails just fine but can not send them. i
will post error i am getting under if it helps.
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was 'jks@fidnet.com'. Subject 'Re: Project

Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,

Re: cannot send any email since error message
Thanks for including the entire error message, since it greatly
facilitates the troubleshooting effort.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the pop3 account, Properties,
Advanced, change the outgoing port from 25 to 587.
Go to the Servers tab and check the box for "My server requires
authentication." Verify that your settings now agree with

Re: cannot send any email since error message
I take it that this problem only occurs when sending, and that
your receiving is fine.
Assuming you have verified all your settings with the directions
in the URL below, and that "My server requires authentication" is
enabled, then the only other possibility is interference from your
antivirus program.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton
antivirus programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, not just
disabled. If the problem persists after uninstalling your antivirus,
it means that the antivirus corrupted your password store. Delete
that mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.
After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download and
install a more compatible antivirus like:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Re: cannot send any email since error message
well i do not have a antivirus only use what windows vistas firewall and what
not. soo i am not sure what to do then. when i went into the account, then
properties and go into settings for the out going mail server i had (use same
settings as my incomong mail server) clicked but when u go to send/receive it
pops up that same window agin asking for username and password so i type it
in and just keeps asking for it. but when i went back into the outgoing mail
server settings it has (log on using) clicked and has my username and
password in it but still does not send and keeps asking me for username and

Re: cannot send any email since error message
This is the fix you want:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090
"Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista"
It works on other folders in addition to the Outbox.
