Windows Vista Default Mail Client is not properly installed

Hello,
I think I must have deleted one of my windows mail programs. I have
Windows Mail (News) but not the other one, Windows Mail. I can use the
windows mail to send and receive mail but when I click on an email
address from the internet, it says that it can't do that because the
default mail client is not properly installed. I've been to the control
panel and when I go to default programs, I only get Windows Mail (News)
to show up. I can go into options within the mail program and set it to
be the default mail handler, but as soon as I close the window after
hitting apply and ok, it reverts to the other setting. I'm at a loss as
to what to do. I don't want to reformat the hard drive as I have too
much work on it and no time to back up at this point. What shall I
do????

System Restore to a time before the problem started.

Re: Windows Vista Default Mail Client is not properly installed

Bob,
I went into system restore but I can't go any further back than 8 days.
This problem started when I installed AOL 9.0 VR last year in July. I
used to have two mail programs but now only have one. I'm still
perplexed.

Re: Windows Vista Default Mail Client is not properly installed
Search for and delete all references to AOL on your PC. If the problem
persists, backup your registry and search for and delete all references to
AOL.

Try skipping the "Apply" step.

Re: Windows Vista Default Mail Client is not properly installed

Hello All,
I have the problem resolved. I called the manufacture, Acer, and asked
them what to do. They told me that I had to save any files that I wanted
to keep that were on drive C:\ and then format and re-install the system
files. This got rid of any AOL programs in the registry and now Windows
Mail is the default mail handler once again. Now I have a new problem
that I'm going to ask them about tomorrow. I tested out the Narrator on
my computer and now it won't shut up. It's like having a woman sitting
behind you in church that won't stop talking. I have to shut it down
manually everytime I boot up. There isn't anyplace within the system
that I have looked that will take it off the autostart. So I'll find
out tomorrow what has to be done.

Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Ease of Access, Ease of Access
Center, where you will see how to silence Narrator.

Re: Windows Vista Default Mail Client is not properly installed

Thanks Gary,
I did a search on here earlier today and found the answer. Microsoft
has to do some changing in their wording for dummies like myself. They
should tell a person to take the check out of the box. LOL It was such
a simple fix that was staring at me all the time and I didn't see it.
Have a great day!
Vern
