How to stop Windows Mail from automatically select news post
When I select a newsgroup Windows Mail will automatically also select the
first post in the group.
Is it possible to turn this annoying feature off?
The problem is that because a post is selected in the group Windows Mail
will show it in the preview pane and if there is a large file attached to
the post it will begin downloading the post and the file.

Outlook Express did not select any posts when I selected a newsgroup. I like
that better.
Is it possible to make Windows Mail not select any post by itself?

Unfortunately not. They decided this was a desirable feature.

You can disable the Preview pane to prevent from having to download the
message and put a button for it on the toolbar.

You might also consider changing your synchronization setting to "Headers
Only" to prevent this unwanted activity.
