I cannot connect to a server
Hi There

I'm struggling to set up an account for my e-mails so that I can access my
work e-mails. I go through the right process and enter all the details as
needed but still have no joy. I have checked several times as to weather or
not I am entering the wrong server number but I am told that I am. If any
body could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated as I
desperately need to access my e-mails from home.

Thanks in advance

Ian Furnell

You usually need to identify the servers by name, not by number, unless
you are having DNS server problems. A likely name for one of the servers
you need to reach is mail.crowncouriers.co.uk.

Your return address seems to be at a courier company, not an internet
provider, so it's worth asking if their server software has kept up with
updates well enough to have the update issued several months ago and
needed to make their server work well for Vista users.

Also, if you are trying to reach it on port 25, you should know that
many internet providers block connections to port 25 on any email
servers other than their own, to cause trouble for spammers. You
might ask if it listens for outgoing mail on any port other than port
25, and if so, the details of how to switch to the other port.

We can't look over your shoulder, so you will need to post copies
of any error messages you get.

BTW, I see you have Avast configured to scan emails. If you read
the message traffic here for any length you'd know that is a big
mistake.
