Email Address Auto-Complete
In previous versions of Windows with OE when I would begin to type the
recipients address in the box it would auto-complete (or show choices if
there were multiple matches at that point).
Windows Mail for some reason is only doing this on a handful of my contacts
and the rest I must click 'Recipients' and then select them from the huge
list.

Any one know of a fix for the auto-complete issue?

Thanks

Windows Mail does not use the contacts list to auto-complete
addresses. Instead, it uses a separate list of the last 29 addresses
you sent messages to. This list is very hard to edit, but you can
just send messages to the 29 addresses you want on the list the
most.

WM just doesn't do auto-complete correctly. There is no fix that I know of.
The newer Windows Live Mail works better. I've heard of no complaints with
it's auto-complete.

Re: Email Address Auto-Complete
Having just played with Windows Live Mail for a hour last night, I can
supply a lot of other complaints though. One can only hope they make a lot
of improvements to the user interface as development continues. At present
I don't see it as an acceptable alternative to OE.

Re: Email Address Auto-Complete
The point is not so much whether WLM is an acceptable alternative
to OE, but whether it is an acceptable alternative to WM.
All email programs have some negative aspects.

Re: Email Address Auto-Complete
you need to type the first 3 characters of the name for it to try to work.
and then only after you have used the same one several (2-3) times.

as you have been told it still only remembers the last 29 you sent to.

Well what A$$ at Microsoft came up with this "improvement" !!!
Must have had to write some code (any code) just to show the bosses they
were working on something.

Re: Email Address Auto-Complete
Well actually after I have sent someone from my Contacts an email I only need type the first letter (not 2 or 3).
The fact remains this change is without any possible real world purpose IMHO.
I can see here the conversation at MS now, .... Hey boss, I just thought of this really cool new feature we should add to WM !
And how on earth did they come up with the limit of "29" ?

if you look at the number of foreigners that are now programming at/for microsoft it is not surprising.
language barriers always cause problems.

Re: Email Address Auto-Complete
I think Windows Mail was a stop-gap measure. Windows Live Mail was
nowhere near ready, so Windows Mail was cobbled together rather
quickly. It was introduced to beta testers very late in Vista's beta cycle,
so there wasn't much opportunity to develop bug fixes.
Thankfully, Windows Live Mail has received the benefit of a longer
development cycle.
