Forwarded to Vista Mail newsgroup via crosspost:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

MS engineers do NOT monitor these newsgroups as a rule. It's peer-to-peer
support here.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

If Norton is not compatible with Windows Mail, why was it installed by HP

Because Symantec paid HP to include it.

Because Norton (Symantec) pays Dell to do so, in the hopes that
you will spring for the full version when the trial period runs out.
The antivirus compatibility problem with Windows Mail isn't widely
known outside of this newsgroup.
