PC will not connect to POP Server
I worked with my internet provider and they were unable to help me. Windows
mail is not pinging the POP server. I can get my mail via the providers
web-mail, but I can't download any into my mailbox. The SEND/RECEIVE mail
button produces this error message, and the green line indicating the
messages it is trying to download just stalls. If I click wait...again
nothing and if I click STOP the error message I get indicates it is timing
out...already went and tried modifying time settings, already disabled
phishing, the internet provider suggested I contact Windows for help.

Who is your email provider? Many email providers put their better
people to writing instructions on how to set up to use their email
servers, instead of answering the phone. If they haven't written
instructions for Windows Mail yet, their instructions for Outlook
Express should also work under Windows Mail as long as they
don't call for using the HTTP protocol. These instructions are
usually somewhere on their web site. Or, you could tell us who
your email provider, and see if anyone here already knows where
to find the instructions.

"...this error message"? Without a verbatim error message, all we
can do is guess.
The timing out problem may be caused by your antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and
Norton security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Re: PC will not connect to POP Server
Thanks for your help. Shortly after I wrote my inquiry, I was in my webmail
and deleted a rather large email that contained jpeg picture files.
Evidently that was what was stalling the download of my mail onto my pc. As
soon as the email was gone the remaining messages downloaded without problem.

Re: PC will not connect to POP Server
Thanks for your feedback.
Usually that type of problem is diagnosed when the download
stalls out with a status message of "Downloading 3 of 12 messages"
or something similar to that, and that process is repeated each time you
connect.
