Problems sending/receiving when switching from Windows Live Mail back to Windows Mail
I am trying to switch back to Windows Mail from Windows Live Mail. My
settings are exactly the same in both app's, but when I manually click on
"Send/Receive" in WM, I get an error message that says "Some errors occurred
while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of errors below
for more details." However, there is no message there - the Error box is
empty. How do I know what the problem is? I use Gmail, and have it set up to
send my messages to my WM, as well as WLM, which works fine. How come I'm
able to send and receive normally in WLM, but not in WM, and what is this
blank error from? (BTW, in the Tasks box it just says "Check for new
messages on 'Gmail'.") Thanx in advance.

What if any antivirus programs do you have? A Norton antivirus program
caused this for me in WM, and had to be uninstalled, not just disabled, to
stop it.
Also, if you are using HTTP protocol for the Gmail connection under WLM,
you will have to set up to use a different protocol under WM, since WM
can't handle the HTTP protocol.
http://email.about.com/od/windowsmai..._get_gmail.htm
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13273
These instructions cover both the IMAP protocol and the POP protocol.
Choose one, and don't get them mixed up.

Re: Problems sending/receiving when switching from Windows Live Mail back to Windows Mail
You've run across one of the main reasons why many people are
switching from WM to WLM. The latter has fewer bugs.

Yes, I see what you mean. Not worth the trouble. I guess I'll be sticking
with WLM for now. Thanx, all, for the advice anyway.

You're welcome. Sometimes we have to choose between the lesser
of two evils. ;-)

Re: Problems sending/receiving when switching from Windows Live Mail back to Windows Mail
I apologise for "hijacking" this question, but having just become a
member, I cannot seem to create my own thread!
In any case, Gary vanderMolen seems to appear many times in responses
to questions regarding Windows Live Mail.
I have just installed Windows Live Mail and set it up as required. I am
on an XP machine. My problem is that when trying to send emails, it
fails to do so, with the following error message:
The server does not support a SSL connection.
Subject 'test'
Server Error: 250
Server Response: 250 SIZE 20971520
Server: 'smtp.talktalk.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC7D
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): Yes
Talktalk are my broadband providers and I have checked whether they
block port 25 or not and they do not. I used the telnet command:
"telnet://smtp.talktalk.net:25"
and got back: "220 smtp.talktalk.net ESMTP"
The server not supporting SSL connections is what is throwing me. I
have unchecked the "my server requires authentication" box and still get
an error.
Any suggestions?

Re: Problems sending/receiving when switching from Windows Live Mail back to Windows Mail
I have solved the problem. In the instructions to set up Windows Live
Mail, it states that you need to ensure that "This server requires a
secure SSL connection" option is checked.
It never dawned on me (well, not for a day anyway) that this was the
cause.
If you uncheck this (and you should check with your ISP whether their
SMTP server does ordoes not support SSL) then the emails flow in both
directions.

Mine works, and I am bloody happy I can tell you!
[Apologies - I realise now that the rules are to include the stream of
comments associated with your reply - I forgot to do so]

Try : Tools > Accounts > highlight your account, Properties > Advanced >
UN-check BOTH " This server requires a secure connection ( SSL ) > OK

Re: Problems sending/receiving when switching from Windows Live Mail back to Windows Mail
Thanks for reporting back.
The moral of the story is that one should always use the settings
specified by their particular mail provider.
