Mail Stuck in Deleted Items
I currently have 100 e-mails stuck in my deleted items box.

When I try to delete them either individually or by using the Empty 'Deleted
Items' Folder it tells me "An unknown error has occurred"

I am running Windows Vista Home Basic with AVG Free.

Re: Mail Stuck in Deleted Items
To solve the stuck message problem, use this Microsoft fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Although it only mentions Outbox, in fact it will enable removal
of stuck messages from any folder.

Hi Callan,

This will fix the stuck undeletable email message problem:

Installing the KB941090 update will just fix the problem for now. You
must stop the cause to prevent it from happening again. Read the section
titled "FIRST" in this tutorial about antivirus and anti-spyware/adware
programs to help prevent this from happening again, then install the
KB941090 Microsoft Update in the section titled "SECOND" to fix and be
able to delete the stuck message from the problem folder.

Re: Mail Stuck in Deleted Items
thanks for the fix. I have been having the same problem. I'll give it a try
too.

So far I have been getting arround it by highlighting the "deleted items"
folder, right clicking and then hitting "empty deleted items folder". It
seems to work this way, but not using the "empty deleted items folder" from
the "File" top pull down menu.

Did you do a standard install with AVG Free? If so, it may help
to uninstall it and then do a custom install where you tell it to leave
out the part that scans email.

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first.

RE: Mail Stuck in Deleted Items
I figured it out! I had the same problem in junk mail. I couldn't delete mail
by high lighting them and then clicking on the delete. they just stood there.
I click once on the junk mail folder (don't open it) Then right click it and
there was an option to delete junk mail folder!

Gosg, I'm so smart!!!

RE: Mail Stuck in Deleted Items
Try this: Select one or more emails and right-click on them and mark them as
"Read". The font should change from bold to regular. Then right-click the
emails again and select "Delete". If you still get the error, Repeat the
process, but mark the emails as UNREAD, then mark them again as READ, Then
try to delete them again. It seems trying to delete unread emails in bunk in
my Inbox was my problem. I hope this works for you in your Deleted Items
folder as well. Good luck.

Craig :-)
