VISTA MAIL: I receive mails but I cannot send them. PROBLEM

I inserted exactly as on my previous win xp the pop an mail server but
while I receive the mails people send to me they cannot see my mails.

I have no error message at all.

Mail sent are in the sent folder .....so Help required.

You might ask on newsgroup microsoft.public.it.windows.vista.
You'd be more likely to find someone who can find the
instructions for hotmail.it.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

I've knocked off the Norton email scans but still to no avail.

When I send/recieve with no msg's in the outbox it's fine - when I
send/recieve a newly composed msg or reply to a msg they just then sit in the
outbox.
The only way I can get a msg sent is to close windows mail and then re-open
it - it then seems to send the msg's from outbox and they show delivery in
sent items.

Any ideas sirs?

It may help if you click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there's no
check mark in the box before Send messages immediately, click on this
box, then Apply. Click on OK.

Most versions of the Norton program need to be uninstalled, not just
partly disabled, to stop them from causing problems in Windows Mail.
I don't plan to install the latest version to find out whether just turning
off email scanning is enough for it.

Norton antivirus is incompatible with Windows Mail. Disabling it
is NOT sufficient, it must be uninstalled.

I had AVG free edition. I disinstalled it but still I can only receive
mail not send it.

If you decide to reinstall AVG, use the custom install and tell it to leave
out the part that scans email.

Norton often needs not only a regular uninstall, but a special procedure
to wipe out the traces the uninstall left behind. Sorry, I don't know
where to find this procedure.

Once a message goes to the Sent Items folder, it means that
Windows Mail received a 'success' acknowledgement from the
SMTP mail server. So, it is peculiar that your recipients are not
receiving anything from you. What happens when you send an
email to yourself?

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the imput - I've looked at the send settings and this box is
already ticked so that's not it.
In response to your thoughts of not installing the latest Norton - well,
this is a brand new notebook and it came with the latest Norton incarnation.
My advice is don't bother as just turning off the filters DOESN'T solve this!
