can't send email
I have a new computer with vista. It's a notebook. Our main computer has
outlook with my email. I can not send email from the notebook. It reads:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'hi', Account:
'mail.bellsouth.net', Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I have everything filled out right on the notebook as it is in the outlook.
Do I need to get rid of outlook on the main computer in order for the
notebook to receive my email?

If it's the exact same problem, you're with the bellsouth.net part of AT&T
too so you can also check your account under Windows Mail against
these instructions:

Re: can't send email
For what email provider? If it's Comcast, try this, but under Windows
Mail, and I don't recommend the One Click Fix.

Re: can't send email
I'm having the same problem with VISTA Windows e-mail on my notebook. My ISP
is Windstream. I can receive e-mail but cannot send e-mail except to myself.
Have never received an error message - it just doesn't send. Have verified
settings over and over. Have checked and unchecked all settings in
properties of account. Have deleted and added account several times. Have
disabled McAfee e-mail scanning. My ISP does not have any e-mail settings
for Windows Mail at all. I'm on a home network and the last time I checked I
can still receive and send e-mail on my desktop which is using XP and Outlook
Express. My Windows Mail outgoing messages go to my Outbox but the only ones
that are actually sent when I click "send/receive" are those sent to myself.
The others just remain in the Outbox. Very frustrating. Love my new
notebook but have spent the last week fixing VISTA glitches but this e-mail
problem has me stumped. Will try to contact my ISP this PM. Any more
suggestions? General question: Do people like replies at top or bottom of
thread?

Re: can't send email
Addendum to previous post: Just received reply from friend who I tried to
send 6 messages. During all my checking and unchecking, etc. in Account
Properties, she did receive 3 of the 6 messages. If I remember correctly,
when I unchecked the box at the bottom of the General Tab entitled "Include
this account when receiving mail and synchronizing" I was then able to send
but not able to receive messages. This was the only time I received an error
message but at least messages were sent. Rechecked box and back to the same
thing - can receive and not send.

Re: can't send email
Here's some instructions for setting up under an older version of Windows.
Try them under Windows mail and see if they're up to date enough to work:

Re: can't send email
A few email providers insist on downloading mail before uploading any
if you do both at the same time. You may have run into this. To reduce
the chances of this happening, click on Tools, then Options, then Send.
If there's no check mark in the box before Send messages immediately,
click on this box and then Apply. Click on OK.
