Hi DojoHamster,

What antivirus program are you using? Some of these can cause an
assortment of problems with Windows Mail. See the FIRST section here.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62...-problems.html

Also, verify that your email account settings are still correct with
your provider's support webpage on how to setup an email account in
Outlook Express. They both use the same settings. You can find your
account settings in Windows Mail by clicking Tools -> Accounts, then
select your email account and click Properties. Look at "My server
requires authentification" (Servers tab) and "This server requires a
secure connection (SSL)" (Advanced tab). One of these may be incorrect.

I hope this helps you,
Shawn

RE: cant access windows mail
Hi, I have had the same problem, only for the last 2 days. I have not
changed any settings and have verified all my account details are correct.
If you look at the postings over the last couple of days it seems others are
having the same problem. I think it must be a fault with windows mail and I
hope they can find a solution quickly. Regards Net

DojoHamster,

Yes, you only want to use one antivirus program at a time. They will
usually conflict with each other. I would uninstall Mcafee and use AVG
since McAfee does not work properly with Windows Mail. Just make sure
that you did a custom install with AVG and did not install the email
scanning option. If you have problems see the FIRST section in the same
tutorial above.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Re: cant access windows mail
Hi, I tried turning off email scanning on my anti-virus program - it made no
difference - but I seem to have resolved the problem by removing my email
account and then setting it up again with exactly the same details. Hope
this helps.
Regards, Net

Hi Net,

I'm glad that has resolved your problem.

What antivirus program are you using? Sometimes just disabling the
email scanning option will not help, and the antivirus program will need
to be uninstalled if it keeps happening. See the FIRST section here.
