Incoming mail in HTML format
With my new Vista Home Premium I cannot get some mail in HTML format. I get
a page full of numbers and letters. The format appears to be in Normal Text
but there is no way I can change it into HTML. In the menu Modify there is
no Modify Format option as stated in the MS Outlook hints to address the
problem.
Thanks.

IF? You are referring to Windows Mail, which this newsgroup relates to,
then:
Tools>Options>Read tab>read all in plain text, disable.

If as it appears you are asking regarding MS Outlook, then:
Use the following newsgroups for questions or problems with
Outlook97/98/2000+
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ok.calendaring

Menu Modify in what program?

In Windows Mail, click on Tools, then Options, then Read. If there is a
check
mark in the box before Read all messages in plain text, click on this box
and then
Apply. Click on OK.

No way|! The setup is OK in both Outlook and WinMail but it wont
work with a couple of sites from where the emails arrive almost unreadable.
When I receive them on the other PC with XP they are just perfect.
I have read somewhere in the Outlook section that this might be a problem
connected with Outlook 2007 (and/or maybe Vista) that is unable to
translate correctly some HTML features (...or something like that) and that
apparently there is no cure to it.
Thank you anyway.

Re: Incoming mail in HTML format
If they were sent from Outlook, they are probably in the RTF format
which Windows Mail can't handle. Installing Outlook may give it a way
to handle RTF messages, though, but costs enough not everyone wants
to try it.

I don't know if Outlook Express under XP can handle the RTF format,
but it won't run under Vista.

Re: Incoming mail in HTML format

So then what you are saying is that no matter how many times I poke around
in 'options" I will never get to see pictures in my Windows Mail? I always
saw them in my Outlook with XP. There is nothing I can do besides just use a
different service?

Re: Incoming mail in HTML format
For most HTML formats, click on Tools in Windows Mail, then Options,
then Read. If there is a check mark in the box before Read all messages
in plain text, click on this box and then Apply. Click on OK.

For messages using the RTF format from Outlook, you will have to install
Outlook (not Outlook Express), version 2003 or later. Version 2002 also
runs but with a few problems.

If it's a problem with finding a decoder for some of the ways of encoding
attachments, show us the first few lines of the code and maybe someone
can suggest a decoder to try.

If the mail was sent from Outlook using Outlook's RTF format then Windows
Mail will never find the attachment. Windows Mail does not understand
Outlook's RTF format. Ask the Outlook user to please use Plain Text,
especially when sending attachments.
