Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
Hi,
After I install Windows Live Mail, I would like to uninstall Windows Mail
from Windows Vista.
Is it possible? Where can I find this option?
After I install several "Live" applications I would like to uninstall the
equivalent ones that came with Vista, but I didn't find how...
Thanks for help.

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
No, it is not possible to uninstall apps that are an integral part
of Vista.

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
Wait, are you saying that WINDOWS MAIL (an application within the OS) cannot
be removed? Why not?
So I'm forced to essentially store their application on my hard drive?

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
It's very hard to remove without doing the same to the rest of Vista.
You can, however, keep it from doing much by removing all the
accounts under it. You can also make it hard to start by deleting
all the shortcuts that lead to it.

Yes, like IE7, WMP11, and others.

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
It would be like you trying to carve that useless appendix out of your abdomen.
It is best left alone, and removal should not be attempted except by professionals.
There are probably lots of other Vista parts that you aren't using.

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
It would'nt really bother me if it would just sit there quietly (windows
mail, not my belly button). For example, I don't use WMP. And since it sits
on my drive quietly without interrupting my work, I don't mind that I can't
get rid of it. Windows Mail has NEVER been opened on this PC. Why must it
continually bother me ( and lag my productivity)? I know what it is and what
it does and I've decided I don't want it. Why isn't that OK?
thanks

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
thanks, but that's exactly it: there are NO accounts under it because I've
never used it or even opened it. Yet as I use other apps, such as quickbooks,
I constantly get "compact messeges" pop ups. followed by a "server busy" pop
up. rediculous.
BTW, I would be interested in removing "the rest of Vista", but since I have
Vista Home Premium, I'm not "authorized" to downgrade, only to "upgrade".
Is there a way to find the shortcuts (or the tags) to windows mail?

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
Mine came with a newsgroup account for Microsoft Communities already
installed. If your setup is enough like mine, if you haven't created any
shortcuts to Windows Mail, you won't have any. I have, and mine is
labelled WinMail - Shortcut on the desktop.

Re: Uninstall Windows Mail (not Live Mail)
If you could elaborate on the circumstances under which Windows Mail
bothers you, we might be able to help.
You could start by ensuring that your preferred email method has been
registered with Vista as your default email service.
What is your preferred email service?
