Windows Mail acting up
After encountering some problems with Windows Mail (I could not delete or
file any messages), I downloaded the solution suggested by Microsoft's hot
fix 941090. I also tried
http://www.vistax32.com/tutorials/62...-problems.html, but did not get
anywhere.

I then reset my system to a restore point made before the problems started
and thought I had fixed the problems.

However, Windows Mail does not work at all. I cannot receive or send or
delete messages. Incidentally, my Bullguard AntiVirus system is switched off.

What if any error messages do you get when you try to send and receive
messages? Show the entire messages.

I haven't heard of any problems caused by Bullguard AntiVirus but the only
way to be sure is to try with it uninstalled.

Re: Windows Mail acting up
Messages shown in, for example, the In-Box cannot be opened. When I click on
a message I get the following error message: "MESSAGE NOT FOUND The contents
of the message is not found".
Windows Mail cannot be used at all. I therefore use Mozilla Thunderbird
instead.

Sounds like you've found a solution suitable to your problem then.

Re: Windows Mail acting up
I'm sorry, this is a cheap solution but does not solve the real problem of
what happened to the contents of my files in Windows Mail. What happened to
them? Can they just disappear?

Re: Windows Mail acting up
I don't know. But they may still be there as .eml files, hidden but still
there.

Re: Windows Mail acting up
In order to find out whether my registry had been affected, I had Uniblue run
a scan. Allegedly, a total of 637 problems were found in the Activex, OLE,
COM sections. The entries all look more or less the same, and don't mean
anything to me. A typical example:

Entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{001000AF-2DEF-0103-10B6-DC5BA692C858}\TypeLib
Valuename:
Value: {001000AF-1DEF-0002-10B6-DC5BA692C858}
Reason: (The
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{001000AF-2DEF-0103-10B6-DC5BA692C858}\TypeLib key
points to the missing Type Library
{001000AF-1DEF-0002-10B6-DC5BA692C858})

What do you make of this?

Re: Windows Mail acting up
They don't mean anything to me either. However, registry scanning
programs often cause more problems than they fix.
