Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
I can only 'Send' and 'Receive' mail by closing the Windows Mail and then
reopen the program.
If I hit the send receive button the dialouge window says - Some errors
occured while processing the requested tasks. Please review the list of
errors below for more details.
The problem in there are no errors listed below - in fact there is nothing
listed below at all - in the error window.
The program was running fine up until a few days ago and it will still send
mail as long as I don't hit the send receive button. Again, it works fine -
one time only - if I close the program and restart.
Has any one seen this before - or should I reinstall Windows Mail and if so
how?

John

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.
Windows Mail won't uninstall or reinstall without doing the same
to all of Vista along with it.
Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then
Properties. If there is no check mark in the box before Include
this account when receiving mail or synchronizing, click on this
box and then Apply. Click on OK and then Close.
Click on Tools, then Options. If there is no check mark in the
box before Send and receive messages at startup, click on this
box and then Apply. Click on Send. If there is no check mark
in the box before Send messages immediately, click on this box
and then Apply. Click on OK.

Re: Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
I have the same problem in Windows Mail in Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
I have 7 or so accounts and each of them can send/receive fine, If I
also choose to receive all, or send all these also work without a
problem but unfortunately Send/Receive all gives this error and it's
quite clear from the time taken for the error to appear (it's
instantaneous as opposed to the number of seconds taken to actually
check mail using the other methods) that it's not a server/account
related failure.
Restarting the app allows it to work (once) for me too.
I've seen lots of claims online that this is AV related but with
nothing to substantiate those claims. For what it's worth I'm using
KIS 7 but even with the mail scanning disabled the problem remains.

Re: Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
I haven't heard of that problem before.
I haven't heard of problems caused by KIS 7 either but the only way
to be sure is to try with it uninstalled.

Re: Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
Thanks ianbry,
I have exactly the same symptoms - if I select send or receive from the
tools menu it works fine (for either an individual account or all accounts -
I have 3 accounts) but the snd and receive command doesn't work. The failure
is instant as you note so it must be an internal failure.
I am using McAfee Security Center as my protection S/W.

Re: Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
McAfee is the suspected culprit in your case. The only way to be sure
is to uninstall it, reboot, then try Windows Mail again. If no improvement,
you can always reinstall your antivirus.

Re: Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
Gary,
I have tried removing the McAfee and it did not correct the problem. I
tried rebooting 2 times just to be sure.
I have now reinstalled McAfee and nothing has changed.
Any ideas?

I recommend you upgrade to Microsoft's newer email program,
Windows Live Mail:

Gary,
I already use Windows Live Mail but I need remote access for when I travel -
on airplanes etc.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Can only send and receive if I close and reopen Windows Mail
You might check if your email provider allows access through a webmail
interface. That's easier to use remotely.
Check before trying to connect to mail on an airplane. Many of them
forbid such connections, in the fear they might interfere with the pilot's
radio or some other part of the plane's electronics.
