Can't receive emails

I have the windows vista basic, and used the windows easy transfer. I can
successfully send emails, but I can not receive emails. I do not receive any
error messages.. Please help!

Sounds like you have only one direction of your email account under
Windows Mail set up correctly. You probably need to ask your email
provider (who is probably also your internet provider) for their
instructions for setting up to use their email servers, which can involve
choosing port numbers other than the default. If they haven't written
instructions for Windows Mail yet, use their instructions for Outlook
Express, but under Windows Mail instead. The instructions are
probably somewhere on their web site. Or, you could tell us who
your email provider is and see if anyone here already knows where
to find the instructions.

By the way, under Windows Mail, click on Tools, then Accounts,
then your email account, then properties. If there is no check mark
in the box before Include this account when receiving mail or
synchronizing, click on this box and then Apply. Click on OK and
then Close.

Check the web site of your mail provider for the correct SMTP settings for
your account.

Disable any 3rd party interference in your mail process, such as AV mail
scan or Spam blocker software.

What is the complete error message?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Do not send email

Hi Frank,

I had Avast installed, so I terminated the inbound email scanning for both
POP3 IMAP emails... still no success. Should I also terminate outbound email
scans (even though I am not having a problem sending emails??

Still no error messages

There really isn't much sense in scanning outgoing email. If the virus
wasn't caught coming in it won't be caught on the outgoing scan, which does
slow down sending enough to sometimes cause problems sending.

Have you tried sending mail to yourself?
