Window's Mail Problems
I need help. I have just started to use Windows Mail and ma having problems
with it. Sometimes it says that I have emails in my inbox and junk folder
and I don't. When I have deleted emails it shows them as still being in the
folders where I deleted them from and they aren't. Also, in my contacts, I
have it checked that my user picture shows my contact details, but it
doesn't. Someimtes when I shut down the computer, it says that there is a
problem with Windows Mail. I don't have either Norton or McAfee on my
computer, but AVG.
Any advice?

Re: Window's Mail Problems
First, let's make sure we're talking about the same mail program. (I noticed
you haven't posted here before.) This group is not for "Windows Live Mail"
nor for "Windows Live Hotmail". It's for Windows Mail (formerly Outlook
Express). Keep in mind that Windows Mail doesn't "say" you have emails.
You know you have them after you download them (usually automatically when
Windows Mail is opened if that's how your preferences are set) because they
appear in your inbox or junk folder at the same time that the system tray
icon appears. So just to be clear, are you saying that the tray icon comes
on after downloading but there is nothing in any of your folders? (It's
possible someone could be playing a trick on you by setting up your message
rules to delete all messages.) A more likely possibility is that you're
viewing your mail messages on the web (as instructed by your mail service
provider or by Microsoft for Hotmail) and have not yet downloaded them via
Windows Mail. However, the word "sometimes" appearing twice in your message
could mean there is a real problem with Windows Mail that I haven't seen
before. Unfortunately, I could find no way to uninstall and reinstall
Windows Mail on Vista. It comes with Vista as does Internet Explorer.
Perhaps you could discuss the issue with the person who put Vista on your
computer in the first place.

Re: Window's Mail Problems
Thanks. Yes, we are talking about the same thing. I have my email on
Windows Mail. No one is playing a trick on me. I open Windows Mail and the
messages download. It will state that there are five messages in my inbox or
junk folder and when I have deleted them, the number five remains until I
close Windows Mail and reopen it. Also, my user icon is not in my contacts,
even though I have that box checked for it to be. Whe I shut down the
computer, I get an error message saying that Windows Mail has a prolem, which
I have to click ok before the computer shuts down.
I am new here, because I have never had a problem before. I bought my
computer with the operating system already installed.

Re: Window's Mail Problems
Windows Mail has a number of bugs. I recommend you upgrade
to the newer Windows Live Mail:

Re: Window's Mail Problems
If you just started to use Windows Mail, I wonder what you were using for
email before and how long was your computer working fine. The company that
sold you the computer should support you with anything that has to do with
the Vista OS. I'd make sure Windows Mail, IE7, Windows Update, Notepad,
etc are all working properly before installing additional software so that
the computer supplier can't blame you for the problem. At this point they
may ask you to save your data, and then format and reinstall using the
restore disk they provided.
Of course if you're in a hurry and really don't want Windows Mail because
it's not being actively "improved" like Windows Live Mail, you can download
and install this new program and see how the computer performs. After all,
when you format and reinstall it'll all be gone anyway except for the stuff
that
comes with Vista (including Windows Mail) and with your computer.

Is email scanning disabled in AVG?

Re: Window's Mail Problems
there is very little info on resolving windows mail issues. I am a T3 support
for a company and I have a client that has been sending and receiving
duplicates for 3 days. I hope to reinstall windows mail to fix the problem.
thanks for sharing

Re: Window's Mail Problems
Windows Mail won't uninstall or reinstall without taking the rest of Vista
with it. Duplicates sometimes come from having the email account
entered twice under Windows Mail instead of once.

Turn off one of these options:
When starting go directly to my Inbox
or
Send and Receive messages at startup.
With both of these options checked, OE essentially is asking for IMAP mail
messages twice, concurrently. Also, don't manually go to your IMAP mail
Inbox until the mail check is complete.
