Mail, Contact, Groups

In XP, my Groups were shown separately at the top of my Address Book in BOLD
font. In Windows Mail, the Groups are listed just like any other name. Is
there any way to modify the way Groups are displayed?

For all you fellow losers out there that are running Vista Windows Mail and
miss their Groups from Outlook or Outlook Express, I have a found a
workaround after a week of trial and error.

I hope Microsoft is listening when I say: This is an unforgivable error and
a marketing blunder. My Outlook Express worked just fine. Why take it away
from me and force me to use a new product that has horrific shortcomings in
it? This has cost me days of my life to make it usable. PLEASE fix it right
quickly!

OK, I’m done venting. Now to the temporary workaround.

1. Open Windows Explorer, go to C:\users\you\documents\Contacts
2. Make new sub folders for “friends�, “family�, “work�, etc.
3. Move or copy contacts into each of these sub folders from the main folder
4. For each folder (I’ll use family as an example):
a. Open the folder
b. Double click on the first contact listed to open it’s properties
c. Go to the Home tab at the top of the screen
d. Enter the word “family� in the street field
e. Highlight “family� and hit Control-C to copy; click OK
f. For each member of the Family Folder, repeat this process
g. Use the Control-V to paste “family� and save typing
5. To use, open Windows Mail, create a new mail or forward an old one
6. Click the “TO� button; click “find� button; Look in = Windows Contacts
7. Put “family� in the address field; click the “find now� button
8. Select the desired emails (use your SHIFT and Control keys for shortcuts)
9. Click on the TO, CC or BCC buttons, click OK, and SEND
10. HINT: BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy. PLEASE use it for most of your
forwards. It stops all the recipients from seeing all of the address of any
of the other recipients.

Most of mine were imported but I just created a Group and it was not BOLD.

To clarify, I'm talking about how groups are displayed in the 'Select
Recipients' dialog that appears when you click 'To:' in a new e-mail. In
the Contacts folder itself, they are not displayed in Bold.

Yes, I agree. In To: they are bold but in the Contact list, they are not. I
wonder why they are different?

I also "think" I remember (in XP) them being sorted at the beginning of the
address list and not allphabetically. I like the old one better in that
regard.

I have also noticed that when I type someone's name in a new message, it
does not seem to autocomplete until I tab out of the To: field.

Also, if you see this sentence, this is the 4th version of this email
because I went back into the Outbox and made changes. But, when I clicked
Send, it put additonal copies instead of overwriting the original. Is that
a new Vista "enhancement" or is it a bug? As I type this, I see three
others in the outbox and I will delete them before I Send/Receive. What's
going on?

I just noticed that the "duplicates" in the Outbox I mentioned in the last
message only happens in the Newsgroup, not the regular folders.

Pat Cremin, you are a genie! You solved a difficault problem for me, to send
one e-mail to many people without having to look for them in my crowded
contacts´ list. Vista recommends to hit a "New Contact Group" button on my
toolbar. There is no such button. But now I can send all my "Mother´s
Family" contacts (23) the same mail without much trouble. Thank you very
much.

if you are missing the "NEW" buttons on the tool bar, right click in blank space in folder and select properties, then use drop down menu and select CONTACTS, apply and ok.
