Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop
Hello,

I have Vista Ulitmate on both my Desktop and Laptop. I can share files
including media perfectly. Is there anyway to sync windows mail? and maybe
even contact information.

Thanks, Loads.

Re: Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop
The messages are individual eml files so you can copy them from computer to
computer and easily drag them into a WinMail folder from Explorer. The
contacts are stored as individual files also. See the references here for
more details: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm

Re: Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop
Thanks Steve, I can back them up like this.

But is there away to automatically sync these folders.

I tried use make folders available offline and changing my mail store
location to the sync'd folder, but windows mail doens't let me choose that
folder.
The ok button becomes unselectable.

There isn't a way to sync them automatically.

RE: Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop
Hi
I wanted to do the same, but using a drive attached to my nework. If you
have similar then try this. I have been doing it for a few days with no
problems. First create a new folder on the network drive ie NETWORKDDRIVE
Mailstore. Export or copy all e-mail to that folder. Open regedit locate the
following key (back it up first)HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
Mail
open key "Store Root" change the address to something llike
\\NETWORKDRIVE\mailstore. close regedit.
You can now access mail from any pc on the network without needing to sync.
You cannot relocate the mail store from within Windows Mail to a network
drive, this is the only way I have found. Now if someone can tell me the
equivilent reg key for "windows calendar" then all my problems would be
solved!

I would not try accessing that from two computers simultaneously. I also
expect you will get errors, but maybe not.

Re: Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop
I moved from Windows Outlook 2003 to VISTA Business and Office Home 2007....
So I use now Windows mail. What I did was set both computers to receive
mail from the server, and the laptop (primary tool) was set up to leave a
copy on the server. I use the laptop first in the morning and in the evening
before I periodically login with the desk top and download, which removes the
files. The server is cleaned and I have a copy on both computers, I think?!

If I make a boo boo, I just forward needed emails to my offce account and I
get them right back.

I'm a-likin the Vista business as I learn the little idiosynchrosies.

Re: Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop

David Inn's suggested resolution to sync WinMail for Desktop and Laptop
by storing the account data on the network drive worked for me, except
that each time I had to fill in the ID and password for each account.
That is, the ID and password would not save from day to day. Don't know
the answer to that problem.

Re: Sync between Windows mail on Laptop and Desktop
That is expected. Passwords are encrypted with the user's ID,
so there is a conflict with regard to which user ID is being used
for encryption/decryption.

I have the same problem and solved it in the next way.
In all my accounts in Windows Mail I went to Extra/Accounts and dubble
click on the account, went to the Tab Advanced. There you see 'Delivery'
at the bottom. Tap the square: Leave a copy on the server. Now the
messages are available to download on aswell the desktop as the laptop.
Be aware of the fact that you have to delete unnessesairy messages,
otherwise your mailbox on the server will soon be full.
Does this solve it for you?
Hope to hear about it.
