in outlook express i was able to have contacts listed on the left side and
was able to double chick to go directly to sent e-mail is this possible in
windows mail in vista

That has been removed. You have to open a separate contacts window. You
can also click on the + button on the Sidebar and it should give you an
option to show Contacts on the sidebar as a Gadget.
