Virus Check
I need to know which soft ware I'm supposta use in my new Vista for virus
check???? My Tech. deleted by mistake the one that came with my new
computer. We were going to down load my Norton 2007 from my old computer
(after we deleted the Mcafee) we discovered it will not work. Went to store
to buy a new Mc Afee and they all have stickers on them stating, not to be
used with Vista. What do I do for a virus checker?????? Thanks for any help.

For a great, low cost (FREE!) solution, look at http://free.grisoft.com for
AVG Free.

Re: Virus Check
I had the same problem and I added Webrook antivirus to my Webrook
antispyware, which says is compatible with Vista. Not sure how effective
Webrook is for viruses. Hope to hear from others their opinion.
(I put a message in another Newsgroup regarding Live One Care from Microsoft
and they say that that one is not supposed to be very good...)

Don't try Norton or McAfee.
Avast and AVG are free.
NOD32 is good.

Re: Virus Check
Hi there, Yes AVG is very good & I use it in Vista here, but sometimes the
email scanner dowsn't integrate itself with Windows Mail automatically. You
have to set each account up manually.
Had this problem myself.
It is documented here:

Not being able to run McAfee was a blessing in disguise...I use Kaspersky,
it's not free but does not slow your system like Norton or MacAfee tend to
do.
Kaspersky has a free trial:
http://www.kaspersky.com/

I have a lot of IT friends that will only run it.

Re: Virus Check
Regardless of the program you get, make sure it is set NOT to scan email.
Every antivirus program that has that feature seems to cause problems for
the mail program. see www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Re: Virus Check
No problem here with Kaspersky scanning email. I do have the mail scanner
set to "low" security level and have not had any problem with Windows Mail.
Maybe just lucky?

Re: Virus Check
Well, I can't sit down and do a comparative study of antivirus software to
determine which doesn't cause issues.

So I can't really say unless a given product with the email scan
configuration enabled is really an issue, and I know of about 7 or so, but
not every single product.

So generally I say disable it, especially since its redundant anyway and
can't do anything except slow performance.
