Windows Mail. Can send, not receive
Since switching to Vista and Windows Mail, I have been unable to receive
mail, but can send outgoing mail without problem. I also can't receive
newsgroups.
When opening Windows Mail, I get the "receiving mail" message, with what
seems to be the right number of mail items on my ISP's server, but nothing
arrives. After sixty seconds, it times out with the error message:
" Account: 'pop.tiscali.fr', Server: 'pop.tiscali.fr', Protocol: POP3, Port:
110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19"
In attempting to solve it, I have:
- Checked my account settings over and over again
- Turned off the firewall, Windows Defender, and AVG Anti-virus
- Tried other email clients, Incredimail and Eudora, with the same result,
so I suppose it's a Vista issue, no a Windows Mail one.
I've run out of ideas. Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: Windows Mail. Can send, not receive
Thanks, but I think I've already eliminated the anti-virus SW (I use AVG),
because I dsabled it and the problem was still there.
Unfortunately, I can't think of much else to do, other than a complete
reinstall of Vista, which seems a bit drastic.

Have you tried increasing the server timeout for that account?

The timeout is set to 60 seconds, which should be enough, shouldn't it?
I've just accessed my email account from my portable, which has Windows XP
and Outlook Express, and the messages on the server downloaded immediately.
So the problem must be in the Vista setup, and must have arisen during the
Vista installation. I did a custom "clean" upgrade. It seems strange to me
because the upgrade process doesn't really give any opportunities to mess
things up.

Hi,
I have the same problem. I can send mail but cannot receive mail since
working in Vista. All account info is filled out correct and i have checked
it via webmail / personal account and mail settings. So it must for sure have
something to do with Vista... but what? Can anyone help?
I have a second question; vista mails doesn't work with a DBX file. I have a
backup with only my DBX files but i can't place them in the mail map in the
user account map (where normaly the dbx files of outlook express where). The
file extension changed and the mail program cannot make an eml file out of an
dbx file. How to solve this?

Sorry, I am not familiar with ASP.NET, nor was I ever asked for a
