a simple question is there anyway of backing up emails as in xp ,after a
windows defender failure to protect my pc i lost all and dont wish it to
happen again

With a message on-screen, click FILE|SAVE AS

See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm

The messages are no longer in the same file as the database, but are stored
individually, so there is much less chance of losing the messages in Vista.

However, your hard drive could fail, so its a good idea to backup regularly.
