Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
I've read many messages in this group from people who are having the same
problem as I am. When I send/receive in Windows Mail I am asked to enter
username and password, which I do, only to receive the same request again.
This is the error message:
Account: 'pop.keproject.com', Server: 'pop.keproject.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.',
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
I'm running Avast, Norton was uninstalled ages ago. Have tried deleting
email account and setting it up again. Have tried setting Avast to not scan
emails. Have tried all the suggestions here and still no luck! Help please!

Re: Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
Sometimes the order in which different corrective actions are taken
makes a difference. Did you delete and recreate the account AFTER
turning off scanning in Avast?
If nothing corrects the problem, you should upgrade to Windows

Yes I deleted and recreated the account after turning off the email scanning
in Avast. Thanks for your help nonetheless Gary, I will try Windows Live Mail.

RE: Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
Gary I've just installed Windows Live Mail and the exact same thing is
happening!
I tried Mozilla yesterday too - same problem. I'm really at a loss here.

Re: Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
Well, then it appears to be a problem on the other end...
contact your email provider.

Re: Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
Thanks Dave. I tried my mail server as my first port of call when I
encountered this problem. They are certain that there is nothing they can do
on their end, as my account functions fine and the username and password that
I use to login are correct. I can check my mail on the webmail function
without problems.
I'm just at such a loss as there seems to be no remedy and I'm really sick
of using web based email.
There are so many people having this problem in this community - surely it
can't be my mail server but a Vista problem?

Re: Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
I just started to have the same problems. I don't know if it has to do with
upgrades or not. I deleted McAfee a long time ago and no issues...I tried to
uninstall AVG and reinstall the "Vista" version, but that didn't work either.
Best I can figure, it has something to do with the security upgrade.

Re: Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required
If three different email programs produce the same error, then
it certainly can't be the fault of the email programs.
If it is a Vista problem, it would be much more widespread.
To rule out Vista, sign up for a free account with Gmail,
configure it for POP access:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=13273
Then test that POP account with the three email programs you have.
This should pinpoint the problem as either being caused by
Vista or by the pop.keproject.com server.
